My Super Heroes

On this day a hero was born. My super hero. My mother. 

My mom lost her battle with cancer four years ago and I lost a big part of myself. I am no stranger to loss. My family was dealt a devastating blow in 2004 with the very unexpected loss of my big sister, my mom's first born. She left behind three little lives. Three little lives that had to survive without their own hero, their mother.  

 I've found comfort in a very special song by Marvin Sapp titled My Testimony. 

Experienced loss at a major cost

But I never lost faith in You

So if you see me cry

It's just a sign that I'm still alive 

I've got some scars but I'm still alive

In spite of calamity

He still has a plan for me 

And it's working for my good

And it's building My Testimony 


On this day I remember and celebrate My Super Heroes - my mom and sister.

Happy Birthday - Angry Birds Style!

Anisa just celebrated her birthday and we wanted to share a few of the pictures.

In order to achieve this look, Anisa wore her hair banded throughout the week. 

We celebrated her birthday by throwing her a fabulous pajama party! The girls had such a great time!!

Finally, here is a picture of the goody bags that we made. Anisa and I drew the faces ourselves!! 

Here she is the following day wearing some of her birthday presents - pink Angry Birds earrings, necklace, and ring (not pictured) and hair bands that were specially made just for her!

A Letter to a King

To my King,
    
     On this day two years ago you came into our world. After several hours of labor there you were. Bright eyed and alert, you were ready to stake your claim. You were ready to portray all that your name stands for. You are my King. The ruler of my heart. You are your daddy's little twin and your sister's pride and joy. Your presence is like no other.

     You're never one to be overlooked in a crowd. You wear your crown well. Although you may not know about all of the power that you hold, one day you will. One day you'll grow older and have a little one of your own. You'll look at your son with the same prideful eyes that look upon you each day. You'll know what I feel when I look at you.

     You're getting older everyday. Pretty soon mommy won't be able to pick you up and carry you around. You'll tower over your sister and you'll look even more like your dad. One thing that will never change is that you will always be loved. From your first day until my very last I will make sure that you never forget that.

It is now time to remember. We remember you on this day as being the best daughter, big sister, mother, aunt, and friend that you could possibly be. We remember the good times along with the bad. Even though you were taken from us too soon, we cherish the time that we had. We know that even though we may not be able to see you, we find peace in the fact that your spirit is still present. We will find strength in what remains behind.
