Box Braids for Girls + iheartcurls Review

The Style

Anisa has been sporting a new protective style lately... Box Braids!!! Box braids are one of my favorite protective styles because they are so versatile. You can wear them up or down, curly or straight. You can also style them or just let them be.  With the proper care and moisture, box braids can last for a very long time!

I curled Anisa's box braids using Curlformers after a couple of days of having them in. Although her hair didn't curl the way that I hoped it would, I was still very pleased with the results.

iheartcurls

I recently received these beautiful headbands and the gorgeous flower from Twisted Marie of iheartcurls. Iheartcurls offers fold over elastic headbands and hair ties that are both durable and affordable! The following description is available on her Etsy page:

This listing is for two FOE headbands with a silk flower and interchangeable snaps. These two bands are interchangeable the Velcro snap makes it easy to wear the flower on either band or wear it without the velcro snap. They are comfortable and can stretch easily while still maintaining their shape. Stretchy, soft material will not leave any dents or cause any headaches. Can be used to pull back hair without snagging or pulling too tight. Can be hand washed and laid flat to air dry. The ends are heat sealed to prevent fraying.

I received the Petals Package:

 Detachable flower with velcro attachment
Fold over elastic headband with removable velcro attachment

The Review

Twisted Marie has created a wonderful product that does exactly what it claims. Anisa never complained about the headband being too tight. Nor did she have a problem with it slipping out of place. The orchid is absolutely beautiful! It never fell off and the velcro attachments did not pull or snag on her hair.

I would definitely recommend these products!! They are durable, affordable, and oh so cute!! If you want to learn more about iheartcurls, head on over to her Etsy shop and let her know that I sent you!!

Box Braids and Cornrows Using Curlformers

January Hair Carnival and Giveaway

*This style was originally posted on Beads, Braids and Beyond

Steps:
Day 1: I made two cornrows in the front on each side and cornrows in the back. She has two ponytails on each side of her head in the front and a big ponytail in the back (center).

I added Curlformers to the cornrows and the big ponytail in the back.

Later on Day 2: I added small box braids to the section where the big ponytail was.

Once again I added the Curlformers. I also added another cornrow in the front on each side.

Later on Day 3: I added small box braids in the front where the two ponytails were. The style is almost complete!!!!

Day 4: The Results!!!
I used my own mixture of  shea butter, coconut oil, vitamin E oil, and castor oil while braiding her hair.

Inspired by... Update

In my Inspired by... post I let everyone know that I would be posting an update soon. Well here it is! I decided to give her braids a curly look by using Curlformers. I used Bee Mine Bee Hold Curly Butter on her braids prior to the placement of each Curlformer. The Curlformers that I have are too short for her hair now so I will have to purchase the Extra Long and Wide packs soon.

I placed a satin hair wrap around her braided headband to protect it during bedtime. I did not place anything over the Curlformers. Here are the results:

We stopped by Target in the later part of this day so I could pick up an ink cartridge. I must admit that I've been doing a pretty good job of staying out of there!! I love Target but each time I go in, I end up with a cart FULL of stuff that I really don't need! So when we got in the store, we made our usual stop in the dollar section. Anisa found a couple of things and we continued on our way to get the ink. I did not walk past the girl's clothing section because I did not want to be tempted to buy yet another item that was not needed. I decided to walk past the women's clothing section instead. No temptation there because I'm not in the market for new clothes right now. So we approach this section and what do I see!? Girl's clothing!!! But not the girl's clothing that I usually see!! These items are different with bold colors and designs! I guess I've been living under a rock because I did not know anything about the Missoni line!

According to the Target website, "Since 1953, the legendary Missoni fashion house has been known worldwide for its eclectic mix-and-match patterns, colors and textures. Now Missoni brings its iconic Italian lifestyle to you with the exclusive Missoni for Target collection."

Most of the items are completely sold out online so I'm happy that I was able to get a few things. In all, I purchased the dress, leggings, and ballet flats for one complete outfit and a poncho and a pair of rain boots for her second outfit.

If you are interested in any of the items from this line, check online to see if your store has any of the items in stock.

What type of items have you purchased for the fall? Where do you prefer to shop for your kids?
