Curly Two-Strand Twists

Curly Two-Strand Twists

Even though I enjoy creating cute braided styles, I must admit that I LOVE twists!! Here is our most recent style that was created with two awesome products from Camille Rose Naturals

I recently purchased the Almond Jai Twisting Butter and the Curl Love Moisture Milk from my local Target. The Target website states that the products are not available in stores but that is not true. I found the Almond Jai Twisting Butter, Curl Love Moisture Milk, Algae Deep Conditioning Mask, and the Curl Maker in my local store.

The Style

For this style, I prepared my daughter's hair using our regular routine. Her was not banded due to time so I opted to blow dry it instead. Once this process was complete, I began twisting her hair. I applied a small amount of the Curl Love Moisture Milk and the Almond Jai Twisting Butter to each section prior to twisting. I also made several cornrows that continued into twists in the front section of her hair. I did not use any rubber bands for this style.

Both products have a pretty thick consistency so a little goes a long way. Even though they are thick, they melt into the hair and do not weigh it down. If you're wondering about the smell, trust me when I say that they smell absolutely delicious!!!

I rolled her twists later that night before bedtime using a little bit more of the Almond Jai Twisting Butter and flexi rods. I covered her hair with a satin bonnet while the flexi rods were in. This is the result:

The Verdict

I LOVE these products!!! They left her hair feeling and looking amazing! She has had her twists for a week and they still look great with minimal frizzing.  I have been applying the Curl Love Moisture Milk to her twists every other day prior to bedtime. She also sleeps in a satin bonnet. I have not needed to retwist any of her hair since she has had this style.

She loves her hair!!!

Be sure to check out our Facebook page to see updated pics of her curly twists!! In the meantime, what are you waiting for? Head on over to Camille Rose Naturals or your local Target and pick up some of these fab products for yourself!

Protective Style - All Dressed Up

Anisa recently found this cute dress and she couldn't wait to wear it!! I've been thinking about doing another protective style and I thought about small box braids again. I quickly changed my mind when I remembered how long of a process it is.  I decided to do an off-centered curly mohawk. I did not use any rubberbands for this style. There is one hair pin in the front to keep the curls out of her face.

Here is a picture that was taken before I rolled her braids.

I  rolled her braids using satin covered sponge rollers. She slept in the rollers over night and covered her hair using a satin bonnet.

Here she is all dressed up and ready for church.

We love it!!

Update: Picture Day Style!

I decided to change up Anisa's Mixing the Old with the New style for picture day. A majority of the braids were removed for a braid out. As you can see in the above picture, I kept some of the cornrows in the front and changed them up a little bit. I also added a simple roll twist in the front to help frame her face. Nice and simple!!

The above pics were taken the night before picture day after I finished removing her braids. I also detangled her hair with my fingers.

The night before picture day I coated her hair with Oyin Handmade Hair Dew and placed her hair in two strand twists. Next, I rolled the twists using flexi-rods. Her hair was then covered with a satin bonnet for bedtime. Here are the results:

What did you do for picture day? Please share!!!

Back to School with Style

I wasn't sure which style I would do for our Back to School Style. I decided to do a variation of a previous style that I did earlier in the year. One major difference in the two styles is the amout of time it took to finish. I completed the previous style over the course of 3 days. I completed the new style in about 3 - 4 hours.

I started with clean, moisturized, and detangled hair. Her hair was cowashed using Herbal Essence Hello Hydration (old ingredients) with joboa oil added for extra slip. I decided to try the Oyin Handmade products on her hair once again. This time I used the Hair Dew Lightweight Quenching Lotion and the Burnt Sugar Pomade while banding her hair. I banded her hair in three sections (top, middle, and back) for a total of about 8 banded ponytails.

I cornrowed the bottom sections and added small box braids to the middle section using my own mixture of unrefined shea butter, coconut oil, vitamin E oil and castor oil.

Once the cornrows and box braids were complete in those sections, I added two cornrows on the top. I made two even sections on top with a part going down the middle of her head. I made the two cornrows (one on each side) by making a part from the top, center/front area down past her ear. I also added two additonal cornrows in the top/front area that can be seen in the pictures below.

We took a break from styling and decided to go to the store. Since her hair was not completely finished, I decided to add ponytails in the front. The ponytails were secured with ouchless bands.

I added small box braids in the front later that same day.

I wanted her braids to be curly for school so I rolled them using satin covered sponge rollers and Bee Mine Bee Hold Curly Butter. Her hair was covered with her satin sleep cap for bedtime.

The Results!!!!!

She has had this style for 5 days now and it still looks great!! A variation that could be made is to gather the box braids in the front into one ponytail. Another variation that could be made is to allow the box braids in the back to hang loosely.

Do you have a Back to School Style in mind? I would love to see them!! As always, if you would like to see more styles, please be sure to "Like" our Facebook fan page!!
