Anisa has been wearing her hair out a lot lately so I wanted to do a protective style. She's had box braids and twists as protective styles but this time I wanted to do something a little different.
I drew a little bit of inspiration from a style that Anisa wore in her preschool pictures. I knew that I wouldn't use the beads but I still wanted to change it up some more.

Her hair was prepared using the routine I wrote about in our Mixing the Old with the New post. Only this time I washed her hair with Shea Moisture Organic Yucca and Baobab Volumizing Conditioner. Her hair was also deep conditioned using Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque. While braiding her hair, I used Oyin Handmade Burnt Sugar pomade and a little bit of grapeseed oil. Here are the results:
I braided the loose ends of her cornrows together starting from the top and continuing to her nap. I looped the end up, tucked it a bit, and secured it with a hair pin. I used a total of 3 hair pins in this section. Although this is a protective style, I still wanted to highlight the front section with a bead. I added a simple wooden bead to the loop that I made in the front. I really love the results!!!
This is a nice protective style that keeps the very delicate ends of the hair protected. I will maintain her style by moisturizing daily. She will also wear a satin bonnet at night in addition to using her satin pillowcase.
What kind of protective styles do you prefer? I would love to hear from you!! Also, check out the new 1 Month Protective Styling Challenge on www.beadsbraidsbeyond.blogspot.com.
